BUT I WILL, THANKSI work for a construction company and the other day the fellow that supplies us with tires said he had some old military gun parts that used to belong to his dad that he wanted to give to me to get rid of them. When he gave them to me there was two complete rifles and this is one of them. I tried to give him some money but he wouldn’t take any. This rifle is in real nice shape and has the Parker Hale peep sight.

You know, as old of a piece of junk looking Mossberg 500 Accessories as that one is I think you should pay-it-forward and send it to me! Heck if it fires I might even reimburse you for the shipping.
Nice score! The 42M(b) was made between 1945-47

Martially marked trainer, maybe $350 for excellent. The receiver may be factory tapped for the old style WeaverRedfield side mounts. I’m not certain, but I don’t think any barrels were drilled/tapped for scope blocks though.
I don’t think the English Parker-Hale sight is original.
Here’s your specifications: http://www.geocities.com/sloopitol2/modela42mabc.html
Vic Havlin should be able to help you out with any needed parts.

That’s a Lend/Lease rifle. the Parker -Hale is the correct sight. Is there any yellow paint on the rifle?
That’s not a scope mount hole there in the barrel, that’s for the rear sight…that isn’t there.
Great score.

I can’t see any traces of the yellow paint daubs on the stock, it looks like it was possibly sanded at one time because the buttplate is a touch larger than the end of the stock. It does have a springloaded compartment in the buttplate so I figured it was the correct plate. Also, the front sight doesn’t have a notch for a sight hood so I don’t know if the Brittish replaced it when they replaced the S series peep sight.
Sorry about the crappy cell phone pics.
